An encouragement to fellow pastors and believers

Speak up while you still can! It is your imperative, your duty, your responsibility to speak to the issues of the day–from a Biblical perspective, of course; speak up in person, speak up in writing, speak up on the phone, shout it from the housetops, from the pulpit, from any platform upon which you stand. Which issues? ALL ISSUES…God has something to say about all areas of life, public and private. If you know your history, you know that our 18th Century pulpits helped fan the flames of liberty across America. Ministers taught Christian civic responsibility as a duty to God. We, as Christian citizens, are duty bound to express our individual self-government in an informed and responsible way. That means ending the fearful silence and taking a courageous stand for what is right and good–it means loving your neighbor as yourself.  Yes, this is our great earthly responsibility. It means taking the lead. It means getting involved in your community, on behalf of your community. In America, it also means getting involved in the political process:  Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people. If the foundations be destroyed, what will the righteous do? Are you a defender and rebuilder of the foundations, or not?  Now is the time to speak up.  Are you concerned about legalities?  Now is the time to speak up!  Pastors and Christians have the same right to free speech and press as anyone else. Your position or personal belief does not muzzle you, unless your desire to please men is greater than your desire to please your Heavenly Father.  The time is now, the battleground surrounds you.  Keep to the issues, keep to the facts, keep to the qualifications and character needed to hold public office.  Keep to the great Biblical principles that are espoused in our Declaration of Independence and enshrined in our Constitution–life, liberty, property–and fulfill your pledge of allegiance to One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. This is your time, Christian brother and sister.  You have been brought into the kingdom for such a time as this.  I encourage you to give voice to your convictions and take your stand.  God help me…I can do no other.
