PowerballMania=when reason goes out the window

$600M and record sales–so, excitement increases as everything goes up? Everything? Not quite…not the most important thing. The jackpot goes up, up, up and the odds of winning go down, down, down. Yet, more people play–proof that all eyes are focused on the glittering pot and not on the plunging odds. “But someone’s going to win it,” says the player’s irrational rationale. Yes, but the statistics grow LESS LIKELY that it will be YOU! A “mania” is defined as an excessive or unreasonable enthusiasm. Webster got that right.
